Webinar: Nov Ballot Question 2 – Understanding the Tax Cap (HB 1300)

When:

Starts on October 27, 2026 at 7:00 pm

Ends at 8:30 pm

On November 3, towns and wards across the state will have Question 2, a tax cap question, on their ballot. If the tax cap is adopted by a three-fifths (3/5) majority, the local property tax levy (tax effort) cannot grow beyond the prior year’s amount, adjusted for inflation and new construction, and SAU central-office spending could not exceed 6 percent of total school district appropriations, not classroom instruction or school-based services. Bonded capital costs for school buildings are be excluded from both limits.

There is much information (and misinformation), so we will provide a straightforward explanation of this very important school governance and budgeting question. In short, The optional cap will not cut school funding; if adopted, it will limit the rate at which school property taxes (tax effort) can increase for next two years.

This free webinar hosted by SDGA President Eric Pauer, who will explain the tax cap question, what it does, how it works, and why it is important.

A Zoom link will be sent to registrants.
