Does your board have counsel independent from your SAU? Should you?
Who should have the attorney/client relationship? Your board or the superintendent? Does it matter?
Do you know how to get an independent second opinion?

Ryan McKenna of McKenna Law will discuss issues of importance to school board members around employing legal counsel for your school district and SAU. Attorney McKenna will be joined by Ian Huyett, Esq. who recently won a NH Supreme Court case on school choice.

To understand the importance a second opinion can sometimes make, we invite you to read a true story that affected the educational lives of many students:

Advanced registration is free but required to receive a Zoom link on November 6.

Webinar:  Primer on SB2 Form of School District and Town Meeting
Nov 18 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Tuesday, November 18, 2025, 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM

Are you curious to know if the SB2 form of meeting would benefit your school district or town? School districts (as well as towns) in NH by default use the traditional form of meeting, or adopt the SB2 form of meeting, also called “Official Ballot Referenda” (RSA 40:13 and RSA 40:14). In 1995, the NH Legislature saw a need for an optional form of town/school district meeting to increase voter participation by providing for all day balloting–they passed 1995 SB2, signed by Governor Steve Merrill, creating the “SB2” form of meeting. Both traditional and SB2 meetings share many similarities but also have distinct differences, with pros and cons. A third form of meeting, based on a charter, is also an option. In fact, SB2 is a special case of meeting under a charter.

Eric Pauer, President of SDGA, has extensive experience with traditional and SB2 school district meetings, and will discuss the details of the SB2 form of meeting, and also briefly cover meetings under charters. We will also discuss recently enacted legislation related to SB2, and 2026 bills aimed to further improve SB2.

Advanced registration is free but required to receive a Zoom link, which registrants can expect on November 16.
