Summary: On Saturday, October 10, Commissioner Frank Edelblut generously spent two hours with us via Zoom to answer our questions and introduce us to a number of invaluable resources on the DOE’s site as well and on the NH Department of Health and Human Services to help school board members and the public learn about:

• statistics about incident rates by school and/or district
   https://www.nh.gov/covid19/dashboard/schools.htm#dash

• expected protocols should an illness be found in a school
   https://www.dhhs.nh.gov/dphs/cdcs/covid19/documents/covid-response-k12.pdf

• guidance on in-school and remote instruction based on community transmission
   https://www.dhhs.nh.gov/dphs/cdcs/covid19/documents/school-instruction-guidance.pdf

He left us with the encouragement to capitalize on the “nimbleness” Covid-19 has required us to create in terms of alternate instructional models so that we can incorporate the strengths of these models into more effective instruction in the long-term.  We all want to get back to normal, but the good of innovation for some students should not be shuttered when schools are fully opened.

We thank the Commissioner for always making time for our members and the consideration he gave us in the extremely relevant material he presented.
