Please join us for an informative webinar on “Petition Warrant Articles, Local Tax Caps, and Budget Caps”. Eric Pauer, SDGA President, will conduct the webinar.
Petition warrant articles are a valuable tool available to voters to propose important changes in governance and budgeting in their school districts (and towns). In most school districts, the signatures of 25 voters can place a warrant article on the warrant at the annual meeting, and with a new 2025 law introducing the concept of a primary petitioner, the article is guaranteed a discussion at the annual meeting. During the 2025 legislative session, the General Court also passed and the Governor signed several important improvements to the local tax cap and school district budget cap, and also created the new town budget cap, making them more attractive. We’ll discuss the differences between a local tax cap and a budget cap, and how these powerful tools can be adopted to help drive school boards and budget committees toward prioritization of needs versus wants, leading to more sustainable budgeting and spending, and in turn resulting in more reasonable property taxes. Low taxes are the result of low spending.
There is no cost to attend, but you must be registered to receive the link to the webinar , which will be sent a day or two before October 21 to all those who registered. All registrants will get a copy of the slides.
